Fall
Cheer
What? They’re the face of the school and cheer at sporting events throughout the year.
When? All year; cheer at fall and winter sports; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30
Where? The High School in one of the gyms, the wrestling room, the track or the front foyer (further information pending)
Fees? Normally around $300; can be reduced by fundraising (further information pending)
Time commitment? High time commitment; yearlong; sports games and practices
Qualifications? 2.5 GPA, high strength, flexibility, and endurance; positive attitude; be coachable
Summer activities? 2 weeks of conditioning and 1-3 days of camp (further information pending)
Covid? They were not highly active during the 2020-2021 school year
Extra? Cheerleaders are leaders and should be outstanding citizens; it is a sport and there’s more involved than the sideline; it’s physically and mentally challenging
Cross Country

Football
What? Practices Football and competes against other schools all while representing CHS. Additionally, athletes build important skills such as teamwork, confidence, and responsibility
When? Fall competing season, but conditioning continues throughout the year.
Where? CHS football field or the varsity locker room
Fees? None
Time commitment? Practice after school, Varsity play on Fridays at 7 pm while JV play on Mondays at pm
Qualifications? All athletes will need a physical and need to be willing to work hard
Summer activities? PowerJacket Program (strength and conditioning program at CHS)
Covid? Still were able to compete, but with not district-provided transportation, turnout to practices have diminished
Extra? Freshmen interested in joining Football should join during their Freshman year. Rarely does skipping Freshman year and trying to start Sophomore year work out for the best
Soccer (boys)
What? Practices soccer and competes against other schools while representing CHS
When? Fall season; Monday-Friday 3:30-5:30
Where? Turf field (stadium at the back of the school)
Fees? None unless school equipment is lost; shin guards must be purchased
Time commitment? 2-hour practices each day and 2-3 games per week
Qualifications? None, just be willing to try
Summer activities? Camps in June and July (further information pending); August 9th is the first official practice
Covid? Had a full season in 2020; were not severely impacted because it’s outdoors
Extra? Students must have a current physical (from a medical professional), a willingness to be coached, dedication to the team, and be able to work hard.
Tennis

Volleyball
What? Practices Volleyball and competes against other schools all while representing CHS. Additionally, athletes build important skills such as teamwork, confidence, and responsibility
When? Fall competing season, but conditioning continues throughout the year.
Where? CHS big (“blue”) gym
Fees? Athletes must provide their own shoes, though there is a selection of donated shoes they are welcome to wear.
Time commitment? Practice from 3:30-5:30 pm. 2-3 games per week, and 2-4 total weekend tournaments
Qualifications? All athletes will need a physical, maintain a 3.25 GPA as well as no “F’s” to play, and athletes must attend all games and practices
Summer activities? Open gyms and conditioning Monday - Thursday from 4-5:50 pm at the middle school, July 7-30th. PowerJacket Program (strength and conditioning program at CHS)
Covid? High school season was canceled, and they were unable to play in the spring either

Winter
Basketball (boys)
What? Practice Basketball and compete against other schools all while representing CHS

Where? CHS Gym
Fees? None
Time commitment? After school practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as games and tournaments when applicable
Qualifications? All athletes will need a physical and fulfill MSHSAA and Center’s academic eligibility requirements
Summer activities? Strength and conditioning as well as various summer league
Covid? Fewer tournaments; masks are worn during practices and while on the bench during games
Extra? None
Basketball (girls)
What? Practices Basketball and competes against other schools all while representing CHS
When? Winter competition season with practices from 4:30-6:30 pm Monday - Friday
Where? CHS gym
Fees? Athletes will need a pair of basketball shoes
Time commitment? Practices from 4:30-6:30 pm Monday - Friday as well as games and tournaments when applicable
Qualifications? All athletes will need a physical as well as no “F’s” to play. Being a student comes first
Summer activities? Workouts and conditioning on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-4 pm at CMS, as well as a summer league in June
Covid? Fewer tournaments; masks are worn during practices and while on the bench during games
Extra? None
Swim and Dive
What? Swim and Dive is an all-girls team focused on individual improvement. Everyone competes at their own pace!
When? Monday - Friday 3:30 to 5:30 pm
Where? Red Bridge YMCA, a bus transports from CHS, but athletes must provide their own ride home
Fees? $30-40 for their competition swimsuit and own pair of goggles
Time commitment? On top of practice, there are swim meets throughout the season, but they are usually in the area and finish up at around 6 pm
Qualifications? None; they will teach you everything you need to know (but it’s preferred that you aren’t afraid of water!)
Summer activities? None
Covid? Still able to meet and practice within COVID guidelines from Center School District and the YMCA
Extra? Don’t be afraid to try something new! There are great girls on the swim team, and they are all willing to help you learn and grow!
Wrestling
What? Practice Wrestling and compete against other schools all while representing CHS
When? Winter competition season with practice from 3:45 to 6:45 pm
Where? CHS Wrestling Room
Fees? Noe fees besides paying for your own meal during events
Time commitment? Practices on Monday - Friday from 3:45 - 6:45 pm. Events typically take place on Tuesdays or Thursdays, while tournaments take place on Saturdays
Qualifications? All athletes will need a physical, have 14 full practices on record, fulfill MSHSAA and Center’s academic eligibility requirements, and most importantly a willingness to work hard!
Summer activities? Camps during the summer, but the location is currently undetermined. Check back on the Center Athletic page for more info!
Covid? Matches and tournaments have limited the number of teams and people in attendance to follow COVID guidelines.
Extra? Wrestling is a great opportunity to push your limits and learn to overcome adversity. Wrestling is also a great complementary sport to improve in other sports and activities
Spring
Baseball
What? Practices baseball to compete with schools in the area and represent Center
When? Spring season; Monday-Friday 3:30-6:00; Games and occasional practices on Saturdays
Where? Baseball diamond at Center Middle; Gold gym at the high school if weather is bad
Fees? $20 for a hat and equipment (gloves, cleats, bats, etc.)
Time commitment? 2 hours practices and games (potentially 4+ hours if there’s a doubleheader)
Qualifications? MSHSAA eligible; 1.57 GPA and 6 of 7 classes passed the previous semester
Summer activities? There is a summer program, but Center doesn’t provide it
Covid? The team had an active 2021 season, but the lack of fans certainly made things more difficult
Extra? Students do not have to have played baseball before
Golf

What? Competes at track meets against several teams in various events (speed, power, or jumping ability)

Where? On the track by the football field (behind the school)

Covid? It hurt numbers because of transportation problems, but they were active.
